Exploration

From a project management perspective, the Exploration phase is where a business need for a project is justified, and the potentantial cost of the project is estimated. The Business Lead (or Project Manager if already assigned) works with the EPMO to obtain the State Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) approval on the Business Case/Cost Analysis (IT ABC form).

Throughout their analysis over the course of Exploration, the Enterprise Architect (EA) will provide critical analysis of technology via an Architecture Assessment. The assessment outlines how well a proposed technology solution aligns to both the business need and the larger State strategies using the framework of Business, Application, Information and Technology Architecture. Additionally, EAs can also bring to light potential additional Governance and Security requirements. Selected technologies will be assessed throughout the project process for their continued alignment to this assessment.
